Le chantier naval Robert Léglise
Wooden boats of yesteryear!
Thanks to the PMO Association, the hundred year old shipyard at Château-d’Oléron has been saved and restored. Many traditional island boats have started a second life here.
Ready to set sail?
Flat-bottomed oystermen’s boats, “sardinières”, dinghies and rowboats have all been restored here by volunteers under the gaze of the public. Visitors can discover a fascinating world of old tools, photos, plans, templates and the generational skills of marine carpenters.
La Fanette, L’Impossible, la Vénus, le Félicien, le Juliar and the mussel-farmer’s sloop Notre Dame de la Clarté have all come back from decay and visitors can enjoy them in the port of Château d’Oléron or during the meetings of traditional sailboats in which the association participates.
